were in the old studios at Hindmarsh
Square. The conductor was
not satisfied with the tuning of the violins, so he stopped the rehearsal and
said that he wanted all violins line up outside his room, then each violinist
in turn would come in and tune in front of him until he was satisfied. Well,
the leader did this, then the deputy leader. But from there on, these same two
violins were handed on right down the line, until everyone had been in!”
