The recording of Michael Hurst's
"The Swagman's Promenade", which subsequently was released on an EMI
LP. Took place in Norwood's Temporary
Studio on the very day Neil
Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the
Moon!! We all took an extended luncheon break, so as to
watch the landing at home on TV. When the Orchestra reconvened later, we
returned to the recording of the Hurst.
I can still recall Bill Haydock, one of the
SASO's First Violins at that time, playing Debussy's "Clair de
Lune" in the corridor at Norwood. Bill had a delightfully droll
sense of humour and his topical busking
effort that day certainly raised a few smiles
from the members who heard him.
