The barbecue is on the side of "the road" en route to Ceduna. I think this would have been late in
1965, when we took an ensemble of 10 or so from the SASO ranks to Woomera, Pt. Augusta, Wudinna, Kimba, Ceduna, etc. on a
Lewis Bros bus. Laurie Casey was Tour Manager, and Arthur Turner the
driver, who helped in all sorts of ways. There was, I recall, an
avalanche of very complimentary mail from all the centres
we visited upon our return to Adelaide. On that trip,
we also visited the "School of the Air" (Pt. Augusta I
think it was/is?). It was a true foray into the "back
o' beyond". And the magic was, that
these wonderful kids in the backblocks of South Australia had no TV at that
time and were transfixed by our presentation and demonstrations of music. How
different to today when all sorts of competitive entertainments occupy their
minds!
