SUPPORT FOR THE
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ORCHESTRA
It was a good idea, to which effect was
given at the meeting in the Adelaide Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon convened
by the Lady Mayoress, to enlist the support of the women of Adelaide for the South Australian
Orchestra. A committee of influential ladies has been formed which will
co-operate with the executive committee of the orchestra, and do its best to
place that admirable institution on a sound financial footing. As there is no
art in which women take a deeper interest than they do in music, of which a
very high proportion of them are students or practitioners, it is appropriate
that they should come to the rescue of an orchestra which is cultivating the
popular taste for the noblest works of the great composers, and at the same
time pleasing connoisseurs by its excellent performances. The orchestra
certainly needs their aid. As Dr. Harold Davies stated at the meeting, its
funds, derived entirely from voluntary subscription, are running low………………..
