Herr
Heinicke’s Benefit Concert
This concert was held at Adelaide Town Hall, on 17th November 1896 by Heinicke’s Grand Orchestra. The program
included the Overture to Oberon by Weber and Sarasate’s
Fantasia on Faust played by violinist and conductor, Hermann Heinicke. The South Australian monthly journal called “Music”
reports he played with “utmost ease and brilliancy”. It also reported that “The
orchestra have probably never exhibited a better ensemble or played with more
dash and spirit, than they did on that occasion.”
The article in “Music” concludes that at the next rehearsal
the following Thursday, the musicians of the orchestra presented Heinicke with 50 pounds “that he may better enjoy his
holiday trip to Europe”!!!!
