Norman Chinner, the conductor of the Adelaide Philharmonic Choir was renowned. I used to like his version (Elgar) of the (Choral) National Anthem, always sung at the choir’s concerts with the SASO. The second verse (later abandoned for political reasons) was dramatic, if not jingoistic:-

O Lord our God, arise,

Scatter our enemies and make them fall,

Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On Thee our hopes we fix;

God save us all!
